    Writing Comedy for Beginners (Salisbury)

    This course will take you from the fundamentals of why we laugh, all the way through to hidden structure of jokes and sketches.

    The course will be taught by Daniel Page, a freelance writer and script-editor whose credits include BBC Breaking the News, the award-winning Newsjack, 'Damn the Torpedoes!' and the world famous NewsRevue.

    Writing Sitcom for Beginners (Salisbury)

    Are you a big fan of Sitcom?

    Want to write your own but not sure where to start?

     

    This course will take you step by step through the key elements of writing a sitcom and give you the confidence to generate ideas, start writing your first sitcom and know where to submit it.

     

    Who: Anyone with a good basic grasp of the written word and a thirst for learning (and biscuits).

    • Premise and Tone
    • Compelling Characters
    • Plotting and Structure
    • Dialogue and Humour
    • Coming up with new sitcom concepts
    • What the major TV channels are looking for
     
    The course will be taught by Daniel Page, a freelance writer and script-editor specialising in helping independent producers and up-and-coming writing talent. His first sitcom was runner-up at the Manchester sitcom trials and longlisted by the BBC.

    The 1st Draft Sitcom Writersroom (Online)

    Spring Term

    For beginners to learn the art of sitcom writing and create your first script, on this unique course delivered in partnership with The Comedy Crowd.

     

    The First Draft Sitcom Writersroom is ideal if you have never written a sitcom script but have an absolute burning desire, or at least a strong curiosity, to give it a go and learn how to do it.

     

    It’s a unique 7-week experience combining expert coaching and collaborative comedy writing. Everything is hosted online with live hangouts to work around your schedule. So it doesn’t matter if you are in London, Tahiti, or Antarctica (as long as you have wi-fi, speak English, and have a desire to write sitcom!).

     

    You will join a private writersroom of 6 new writers, where you will be guided through the script development process, generating comedy scenes, characters, and ultimately your first 10 pages of a sitcom script.

     

    You will be part of a team giving and receiving feedback from fellow writers and learning from a professional script editor every step of the journey.

     

    By the end of the writersroom you will have:

    Your own comedy characters and scenes
    The first 10 pages of your brand new sitcom script
    Action points to take the next steps with your sitcom writing
    A community of fellow comedy writers to collaborate and share ideas

    The 2nd Draft Sitcom Writersroom (Online)

    Spring Term

    Enhance your sitcom and make it stand out from the crowd, on this unique course delivered in partnership with The Comedy Crowd.

     

    Bring the first 10 pages of your sitcom to a private writersroom of 6 Comedy Crowders, where you will be guided through the script development process, receiving feedback from fellow writers and a professional script editor every step of the journey.

     

    It’s a unique 7-week experience combining expert coaching and collaborative comedy writing. Everything is hosted online with live hangouts to work around your schedule. So it doesn’t matter if you are in London, Tahiti, or Antarctica (as long as you have wi-fi, speak English, and have a desire to write sitcom!).

     

    You will join a private writersroom of 6 new writers, where you work together to identify how to improve your premise, characters, plotting and humour and ultimately turbo-charge your sitcom.

     

    This is more advanced than the First Draft Sitcom Writersroom, and the skills you will learn reflect that.

     

    By the end of the writersroom you will have:

    A road-tested first 10 pages of your script, with the feedback you need to get it fighting fit

    An understanding of how to develop comedy sitcom scripts

    An action plan to take the next step with your sitcom

    A community of fellow comedy writers to collaborate and share ideas
