    Meet other creatives & work on your own or in pairs to learn the secrets of sitcom and create an original show concept over the course of fun-packed day. The course will cover:

    • What links all great sitcoms
    • What makes a great premise
    • How to build fun characters
    • The structure of plots
    • How to think about audience and tone

    1030 - Meet your fellow creatives.


    1045 - Learn the key aspects of Premise & Tone and start creating your sitcom.


    1245 - after lunch hear from guest speaker Janet Awe, learn the secrets of Character and create your show's cast.


    1430 - discover how to plot like a pro and create an story for your show.


    1545 - bring everything together into a complete show concept and pitch your ideas back to Janet and Dan.


    1630 - Finish

    (NB no scripts will be written during the course).

    Dan has worked with writers around the world to help them develop their scripts and create new concepts from scratch. Dan's first ever sitcom was placed in the top 14% of the 2015 BBC Comedy Writersroom.

    Previously a development executive in Sky’s comedy commissioning team, Janet has worked on shows including Trollied, with Jason Watkins and Sarah Parish and In The Long Run with Idris Elba and Bill Bailey. She has a masters in screenwriting and a postgraduate diploma in script development from the NFTS.

From time to time we may need to make changes in the nature of our delivery to you:

For minor changes that don’t materially affect the content or quality we will let you know of these changes at the point of delivery.
For changes that have a notable negative effect on the content or quality we will endeavour to inform you of the changes as soon as possible and offer a part refund based upon the size of the change.
For changes that significantly negatively affect the content or quality we will let you know as soon as possible and you offer you the chance to receive a full refund.  
For changes involving guest speakers, we may from time to time need to substitute the speaker for another of similar quality and experience.

We state typical delivery times for all our products. If, before we begin the work, we are unlikely or unable to meet those delivery times, we will let you know up-front and offer you the chance for a full refund. 

If, during the process of the work being conducted, we identify that we will be unable to meet specified or agreed delivery times, we will let you know as soon as possible and agree a revised delivery time.  If we cannot agree a revised delivery time we will cease work and provide a full or partial refund, dependent on the degree of work completed (e.g. if we have completed 2 out of 3 scripts to a finished state then we will only refund the part fee for the 3rd unfinished script).

We will store copies of any products or services we produce for our Customers for the purposes of reference and backup, unless explicitly agreed otherwise.

The following default rights will apply to products or services unless otherwise specified:

Script Reports we write for you - we retain the rights to use, reproduce, copy and distribute a report for any purpose related to our business, at any point now or in the future.
Scripts we write for you - we retain no rights to scripts we write for you
Scripts development support - we retain no rights to ideas generated, notes provided or scripts polished.
Course materials (slides, handouts etc.) - we retain all rights to these materials.

All courses will only be run if a minimum threshold number of students book the course. 
You should avoid making travel plans that cannot be altered in the event the course is cancelled by us. In the event that WE cancel a course or lesson, due to minimum student numbers not being reached, or for other reasons such as tutor illness, venue unavailability, travel strikes etc. we will offer you the choice of either a full refund of our course or lesson fee (calculated as a proportion of the course fee) or a place on an alternative future course or lesson of a similar length and standard. We will not be held liable by you for any other costs incurred (e.g. travel and accommodation). 

In the event that YOU wish to cancel your attendance at a course or lesson:
If you let us know of your wish to cancel no later than 2 weeks before the course starts we will issue you with a full refund for that course or lesson.
If you let us know of your wish to cancel less than 2 weeks before the course or lesson starts a refund may be issued at our discretion.
No cancellations are possible once the course or lesson starts.  If you are unable to attend the rest of a course or lesson once it has started we may offer you, at our discretion, a place on an comparable course in the future, at no additional charge.

In the event that you are unhappy with any work we have conducted for you, or any training course delivered, then please let us know as soon as possible.
If there has been a shortfall against the published or otherwise agreed specification then we will make best efforts to close this shortfall at no additional cost to you OR offer you a refund proportionate to the size of the shortfall
If you can point to a clear shortfall in the level of quality you have received then we will make best efforts to close this shortfall at no additional cost to you OR offer you a refund proportionate to the size of the shortfall

Complaints - if we’ve really screwed up then please let us know and we will do our best to fix things. If you need to complain please state:
The nature of the issue
All relevant order details
What reasonable steps you expect us to take to correct the matter

To enable us to fulfil an order from you
You have subscribed to our newsletter

If supplied, we will hold your e-mail address and phone number in order to either deliver a product and/or associated information (e.g. course details, confirmations), enable a newsletter to be delivered, enable you to be subscribed to our Facebook Group, enable us to respond to a query or question, or enable us to contact you with future opportunities.
We will hold this data for an indefinite period of time or until you request we remove this information.
We will not share this data with any third party company or person without your express permission.
We never store or hold any bank details - these are all handled by our payments partner Stripe.
